Good morning, Pasadena. This is News N’ Roses, your local Pasadena newsletter.
Over the past few months, we’ve shared so many memorable moments—celebrating traditions like the Rose Parade, embracing the holidays, enjoying vibrant local events, and coming together to support one another. But our city of Pasadena is facing a challenging time as the Eaton Fire continues to affect our community.
Amid smoky skies and evacuations, our brave firefighters and first responders work tirelessly under extreme conditions to slow the fire’s spread and protect critical infrastructure.
Our hearts are with everyone in Pasadena as the fire continues to affect our community. The Eaton Fire has brought heartbreak, with some of our neighbors losing their homes and belongings to the flames. Our thoughts are with those who have been displaced, and we hope they find comfort and support during this incredibly difficult time.
This fire is another test of our resilience, and I know we’ll rise above it like we always do. Check in on your neighbors, lend a helping hand to those evacuating, and support our local shelters and responders who are working tirelessly to keep us safe. Remember: every small act of kindness strengthens the spirit of our community.

Eaton Fire Updates and Important Information
Evacuations
-
Mandatory Evacuation: Areas north of Orange Grove/Rosemead Blvd., east of Lake Ave., and west of Michillinda Ave. If you’re in these zones, please leave immediately.
-
Evacuation Warning: Surrounding neighborhoods should prepare to evacuate on short notice.
Shelters Available:
-
Pasadena Convention Center (300 E. Green St.)
-
Arcadia Community Center (375 Campus Dr., Arcadia)
-
Pomona Fairplex (1101 W. McKinley Ave., Pomona)
-
Westwood Recreation Center (1350 S Sepulveda Blvd, Los Angeles)
-
El Camino Real Charter High School (5440 Valley Circle Blvd, Woodland Hills)
Pasadena, your safety is the priority. If you’re in an evacuation zone, don’t hesitate—your home and belongings can be replaced, but you cannot.
Water Advisory
Our city’s water supply has been affected by fire-related contamination.
-
Do-Not-Drink Notice: Pasadena Water and Power urges everyone in impacted areas to avoid using tap water for drinking, cooking, or hygiene.
-
Use bottled water for all drinking (including baby formula and juice), brushing teeth, washing dishes, making ice and food preparation until further notice. This also applies to pets and domestic animals.
-
Do not try to treat the water yourself. Boiling, freezing, filtering, adding chlorine or other disinfectants, or letting water stand will not make the water safe to drink.
We know this is inconvenient, but it’s a necessary step to keep everyone healthy. The City of Pasadena will inform the community when tests show that the water is safe again. Expected timeframe for resolution is dependent on the rapidly evolving fire, wind, and related conditions.

WHAT’S HAPPENING
Events Cancelled
Due to the ongoing Eaton Fire and hazardous air quality, most events in Pasadena have been canceled to ensure the safety of our community. We strongly discourage any outdoor recreational activities during this time, as air quality remains poor and fire hazards persist.
Additionally, all schools in Pasadena Unified School District will remain closed thru today, January 10th, with further updates expected as conditions evolve.
Please prioritize your health and safety by staying indoors, avoiding strenuous activity, and following guidance from local authorities. Let’s work together to protect our community during this challenging time.
